Meeting was called to order by Dawn Frank at 11:15am

Discussion: Each member shared their progress and thoughts to date to begin the meeting. The committee then motioned to approve the day’s agenda.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the November 6, November 18, December 4, December 11 (2009) and January 15 (2010). The committee motioned to approve Nov 6. There was a typo in Nov 18 (Jonnie’s name mistakenly read Johnnie), and the committee moved to approve the minutes as changed. The date of the Dec 4 minutes mistakenly reads Dec. 5, and Dawn’s named should be capitalized toward the end of the syllabi revision paragraph, and the committee motioned to approve the minutes as changed. The committee motioned to approve the Dec. 11 and Jan. 15 without changes. The committee decided to not require subcommittee minutes to submit separate minutes, but rather to verbally report their results to the rest of the committee.

Review of SIRS II results: Andy summarized the Fall 2009’s SIRS II results for the committee. Between 10-15% of the students reported that their instructors failed to adequately incorporate Lakota values, perspectives, history, or cultural content into their courses. Dawn suggested that question 46 (the Lakota perspective) be more specific, perhaps requiring further clarification on the student’s part. The committee agreed to revisit the cultural questions on SIRS II in March, and make additional suggestions before April.

Matrix Revisions: Dawn described how the Pine Ridge subcommittee changed some of the language of the matrix, changing ’whether’ to ‘if’ in the Purpose Statement. To conclude the section, ‘to assist the faculty in integrating the Lakota Perspective at an exceptional level’. The committee agreed to adopt the changes in wording.

Humanities Syllabi: Dawn described the delay in collecting humanities syllabi.

Next Meeting: We will discuss SIRS II questions, matrix revisions, and the prospect of humanities syllabi for our next meeting.
