Approval of
Minutes:
The September 8th, 2006 Meeting Minutes were reviewed. Ginna Arguello made the motion to approve the minutes. Darlene Bear Killer seconded the motion.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS 12 FOR
Review of Student
Handbook:
Janice Richards opened discussion for review of the student handbooks. Ginna Arguello suggested that the on-line registration with Jenzabar be included in the handbook.
Richard Jones suggested that the committee add something for students with disabilities. There is nothing in place as far as policy for students with disabilities. Janice recommended forming a committee to work on this item. Volunteers for the subcommittee are Leslie Heathershaw, Richard Jones, Cindy Fisher, Darlene Bear Killer, and Sam Gardipe.
The old handbook states that Early Entry students must have a high school GPA of 3.0 for entry. The new handbook states that E.E. students must have a high school GPA of 2.0. Discussion focused on keeping the GPA at 2.0 for E.E. students. The new handbook also doesn’t mention anything about E.E. students taking the placement tests. The placement test statement should include all E.E. students and all entering freshman.
Keeley Claussen suggested that students should get credit for the remedial classes as this effects student GPA’s and their suspension and probation status. Cindy Fisher informed the committee that Dan Koopman was aware of this and is working on this item. It was suggested that changes be made to CoSu 103 College Success, in that higher level students should be allowed to test out of it or the class should be waived. Sylvia Hollow Horn made the recommendation that the committee invite Dan Koopman to the next meeting. The recommendation was also made to table this item until the meeting with Dan Koopman and until departmental changes were implemented.
New Business:
Janice Richards asked the committee to continue to review the student handbooks. Darlene Bear Killer and Richard Jones recommended looking at Department handbooks, if they have one, to review also.
Motion to Adjourn:
Sylvia Hollow Horn made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Loretta Red Feather seconded the motion. All in favor.
Meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
