The mission and purpose of the Oglala Lakota College Maintenance Department are to ensure that the college
campus is secure, sanitary, and groomed by incorporating daily and yearly preventive maintenance of
structures and equipment, including all necessary repairs.
The college campus is comprised of six buildings: the Main Administrative building, the Education Department
building, the Lakota Culture building, the Applied Sciences building, the Library building, and the Lakota
Culture Science and Technology building. It is the duty of the maintenance department to ensure that these
buildings are kept in peak operational condition. This includes, but is not limited to, daily trash removal;
stocking restrooms with tissue paper/towels; cleaning, mopping, and waxing floors; sanitizing high traffic
areas; maintaining building functionality and regular inspection of furnace units and filters. In addition
to regular maintenance and repair, water samples are taken on a quarterly basis, the lagoon is maintained,
large and small pieces of equipment, i.e., vehicles, bobcat, floor scrubbers/polishers, are maintained and
warranties are checked to ensure they are in effect; grounds are maintained; parking lots are cleared of
snow. Also included are the administrative duties of the Director such as filing, inventory, ordering
supplies, filling out incident reports, and supervisory oversight of personnel within the department.
