Lesson Two: Best Practices of Online Facilitation
This week we will begin a discussion of online best practices. Specifically best practices of pedagogy and course delivery.
Key Lesson Objectives:
- Understand OLC's Distance Learning Policy
- Identify uniquely online teaching best practices
- Identify the differences between traditional teaching with online teaching pedagogy
- Differentiate the role of online instruction with face 2 face instruction
Key Learning Activities:
- Read and understand the Required Reading Material
- Reflective contemplation of virtual teaching philosophy
To successfully complete this learning unit, you will be expected to:
- Develop an philosophy of teaching in an online environment
- Articulate the Best Practices of Online Facilitation
Required Readings and Lesson Materials:
The readings for our lesson may be found in current research. Many of the readings for this lesson are pdf files. You save a copy on your storage media for later reference.

Discussion
From the readings select five pedagogical concepts that contribute significantly to the success of an online lesson. Defend your answer by providing clear evidentiary support for your selections.
- Make two contributions to the weekly discussion forum: 1) an initial
response to the prompt provided by your instructor (due by Wednesday) and
2) a reply to a contribution made by a peer (due no later than Saturday).
- Each forum discussion is worth 10 points. Please refer to the forum
discussion rubric for scoring criteria.
