Distance Learning

Distance Education Infrastructure:

After extensive research and because of economic and geographical conditions on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, OLC decided that "PictureTel" would be used as the major communication tool. This equipment uses normal telephone lines to deliver two way audio and video communications to all of the 10 district college centers in Oglala Lakota College's service area.

The PictureTel 4500 Commodore will deliver full motion video and high quality audio. Auto camera tracking software will be used in each distance learning classroom along with programmable CCD cameras. This will allow full interaction between student and facilitator and student to student reactions. Document cameras, networked computers, Internet, and numerous other commucations tools will be utilized to enhance learning in this infrastructure.

OLC has constructed three new colleges centers with distance learning classrooms. Through OLC's Capital Campaign and other funding resources OLC is continually seeking funding to expand its distance learning capabilities.

Oglala Lakota College is determined to make available to the students all of today's varied technologies to better their educational needs.
