Traditional College Essay

Break down one topic into three subtopic to fit the five paragraph model.

Paragraph 1:  Attention grabber and thesis statement (state topic of paper)

Paragraph 2:  Deal only with subtopic one

Paragraph 3:  Deal only with subtopic two

Paragraph 4:  Deal only with subtopic three

Paragraph 5:  Restate thesis and sum up

Sample Topic:

General Topic:  Time Management

Specific Topic:  Ways to Manage Time

Three subtopics:

                Study right before and after every class

                Use to do lists to prioritize

                Work on difficult subjects first

Thesis:  To manage my time better, I will study right before and after every class, use to do lists to prioritize, and work on the most difficult subjects first.
