About Me

I am a professor at Oglala Lakota College, a college that was set up by the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe in 1971.  A fully accredited college, OLC offers many majors and a chance to do so with an emphasis on maintaining Lakota Culture.

I received my Masters of Science in Education, specializing in Montessori, from Barry University, Miami Shores, Florida.  This lies between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida for those so geographically inclined as to wonder.  I received my Bachelors of Science in Education, through Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota, specializing in Middle School Education.  I finished my minor in Science at Northern State University, but upon returning to Spearfish for school, the minor had been dropped.  I am Language Arts, Social Studies and Science Endorsed in both the state of South Dakota and Florida.

I have been the Science teacher and Program director for about 600 students in Pompano Beach, Florida and a Language Arts teacher in Middle School, at Wounded Knee School, in Manderson, South Dakota, this is about 7 miles from the Wounded Knee that many have read about in history.

I taught within many Montessori schools, public schools and alternative schools, which had both a developmental education and behavioral management program.  I must say, at this venture in my life I much prefer teaching college.

I have 4 children of my own, and am a single mother and have more time now to not only be a good teacher, but to be a mom for my kids as well.  Family is important at OLC, as many of our students are non-traditional students and parents.  It can be very hard to balance both at once.  I do understand and I will also include tools to help those students as well, as I am a certified childbirth and parent education teacher.  Pilamaya (thank-you), for taking the time to find out more about me.
