Applied Science (Marilyn Kockrow)___Congratulations to all the graduates.  Feel proud of your accomplishments!  There will be a second “Business Seminar” on June 8-9, 2006 in the Piya Wiconi Conference Room.  Registration will begin at 8 am and the conference will be from 9-4 both days.  Lunch and refreshments will be furnished.  A small stipend will be given to the first 100 attendees to register to help defray gas expenses.  There will be a small gift for each attendee and door prizes both days.  The conference will feature how to use and market your crafts, paintings, etc., on E-bay (Internet) and how to build your very own Web Page.  There will be three guest speakers each day.  Come for a two-day conference packed with information.  All community members are welcome and invited to attend.  The Applied Science Instructors will be giving workshops in the districts on various topics such as “Customer Service”, “Quick Books”, “Carpentry Skills, etc.  These workshops have a limited number of stipends available.  Watch for flyers!

Academic (Dr. Jeffrey Olson)___As most of you know by now, OLC has a new academic department - the Department of Social Work.  Our webpage is up and active.  the Chairperson, Jeffrey Olson, started work in October, 2005.  Larry Salway and Larry Parker were hired as full-time faculty and begin work this August.  You can find information on the program at http://ww2.olc.edu/jolson/socialwork/  It can also be accessed from the main OLC webpage under Academic Departments...   As the social work major phases in, the human services major is being phased out.  OLC will make every effort to assist seniors and juniors in this program to finish the B.S. degree.  Sophomores will be advised with regard to either finishing the A.A. degree in Human Services or changing majors, whichever is more advantageous for the student.  It is recommended that human service majors with 80 college credits or less change majors and if interested, apply to enter the social work program...  The social work program is going through a national accreditation process.  Students who enter this fall and graduate in 2008, 2009 and 2010 will be considered to have graduated from a CSWE accredited program once we achieve accreditation, projected for June 2010.  This means that (if everything goes well) after June 2010 every OLC BSW graduate would be eligible to apply for a one year MSW program at any university in the country.  Please e-mail the Chairperson of the social work program, Jeffrey Olson - jolson@olc.edu - for information on the program.
