Development (Marilyn Pourier)___I love this whole communication bit!  I’m happy everyone is back in the groove again and ready and willing to spread the good word.  Speaking of the good word; have you seen the Fall 2006 edition of the Tribal College Journal (TCJ)?  There is an article in there titled “Oglala Lakota Sweeps AIHEC Film Competition.”  Congratulations to the students and all that have worked with them to take them this far.  It also includes writings by tribal college students – included are Jesse Short Bull with his story Dot Com Indian and Sandy White Shield with One Hundred Miles Back in Time.  I’m pretty proud of you.  I have been emailing to “allstaff” the announcements for news articles and stories from TCJ and I will continue to do so.  Each quarter they feature a different issue and I am always hopeful someone from OLC will step forward with an article.  I don’t know how they are chosen but if you think your work falls in one of the categories call the TCJ editor and convince her that it does.  There is also a section called On Campus for news briefs.  <><><>   This is sort of a rush job Bulletin.  I wanted to report on the article in RC Journal that reports on the work OLC is doing with the SDSM&T but time has caught up with me.  I will include in next week’s bulletin.

Student Services (Billi Hornbeck)___SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE.   Students!  Apply Today, the deadline is coming up fast!!  SEPTEMBER 8, 2006.   Applications are done on-line at www.collegefund.org.   Students must create a log in and password, fill out the personal information, type in the personal essay and submit it.  Then the student will need to contact the center staff and ask them to take a picture, this will make the application complete.  Please refer to the student planner/handbook for the content of the essay.  It is suggested to type it in word, save it, then copy & paste it to the on-line application.

Early Childhood (Carol Whalen)___The Early Childhood Department is excited to announce our new B.A. degree in Early Childhood!  Three Bachelor’s courses were offered this summer, and now our Bachelor’s program is in full swing.  We have started our B.A. in Early Childhood Pine Ridge Cohort and are offering four Bachelor’s classes in Pine Ridge this semester.  Next semester we will begin our Kyle cohort.  One of our B.A. classes is a service-learning course, “Family Literacy”, so if you have an interest in us providing services in the area of Family Literacy, please call our department.  In addition, we are continuing to offer A.A. in Early Childhood and CDA (Child Development Associate) Credential classes.  Please call the Early Childhood Department at 455-6052 for more information.
