Congratulations Michelle May:  (From the Association)  The Awards Banquet of the South Dakota Library Association Conference was held in Rapid City, September 21, 2006.  Each year this Association of over 300 people from across the state of South Dakota recognizes their own by nominating those in the library community who make a difference in library services.  One of these awards is known as the “New Librarian of the Year”.  The New Librarian of the Year is someone who has transformed a routine task or an untried idea into imaginative, creative service; projected a dynamic image of the professional librarian into the community and offered that community something which it did not have before and has performed the function of a librarian for a period of not more than 10 years.  This year, SDLA, gave this award to Michelle May of Oglala Lakota College. … I believe this is the first time in the history of SDLA that a Tribal librarian has received this award.

Student Services (Billi Hornbeck)___The scholarship meeting has been rescheduled for October 19 and 20TH at Piya Wiconi.

Oglala CC (Donna Red Ear Horse)___From the desk of Carolyn Williams.  Oglala College Center student organization officers for the year 2006-2007: President, Dennette Hudspeth; VP: June Brave Heart; Sec/Treasurer, Kim Bad Heart Bull; Student Senator, Cydney Fast Wolf and PWO Rep: Teton Lakota…

Applied Science & Tech (Marilyn Kockrow)___Stacey Chapman from Gonzaga University was here to visit and she left some packets for anyone interested in getting an MBA Program Degree.  The Johnson Scholarship Foundation will pay for the complete degree.  All you need to do is make an initial visit, pass the GMAT Exam, and all of the Program can be done over the Internet with the exception of six weeks in the summer.  They usually pay for you and your immediate family to live on campus during this time.  All you need is the commitment.  Stacey said if anyone had questions to feel free to call her.  She said it is also open to all our graduates.  If you know of someone wanting to advance their education, this is an excellent opportunity.  The visitors this morning from the Johnson Foundation wondered why they have attendees from all the Tribal Colleges that they serve but OLC.  I could not answer that.  I have five packets in my office that anyone could pick up and I can get more if we need it.  Don’t pass up this opportunity if you desire higher education.   A practice copy of the GMAT is on the Library Web site.  A copy can also be sent to you from Stacey.  You may take the test as many times as you like.  The JSF will pay for you to take it twice.

Learning Resource Ctr ( Michele May)___ The Prime Time Reading Program will meet each Saturday at Woksape Tipi through October 21, 2006.  The only requirement to attend is that a parent, guardian, aunt, uncle, older sister, brother, cousin…….an adult must accompany their children and participate in the reading sessions.  We will see you all at the library!!!!! <><><>  This week Amy Red Owl from Woksape Tipi Library will be at HeSapa on Wednesday, Oct 4 and on Oct 5 she will be at LaCreek from 10:00 to 12:00 and Pass Creek from 1:30 to 3:30.
