President’s Office (Thomas Shortbull)___There will be an All Staff meeting on Friday, May 7, 2010 starting at 10:00 a.m. during which time end of the year announcements will be made and staff awards will be presented.  The President’s Office will be providing the noon meal at this All Staff Meeting. Pejuta Haka CC (Stephanie Sorbel)___PHCC Student Org presents Spring Carnival on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  Everyone loves a carnival!  Here’s your chance to be a kid again.  Join us for live music, carnival games, food and more.  This event will be held at the Pejuta Haka College Center in Kyle.    


Activities Committee (Theresa Lone Hill)___It’s time to start gearing up for Graduation 2010 and the Graduation Wacipi!  The Graduation Wacipi (June 18-20) is fast approaching and we are once again asking for sponsors for each dance category to help make the Wacipi a success.  This is a good way to honor a relative or make a gift in memory of a loved one.  If you are planning on contributing through payroll deduction contact Holly Cuny, there are only a few periods left to pay up before the Wacipi.  Please consider adding your support to the graduation wacipi before you leave.  You will be recognized for your contribution at the Wacipi throughout the weekend.  Thank you.  Call Theresa Lone Hill at 455-6085) for a list of the dance categories. 


PeaceMaking Conference___Sponsored by Oglala Lakota College, Oglala Sioux Tribal Court & OST Housing Authority.  Thursday, Friday & Saturday (May 6, 7 & 8, 2010).  At OLC’s Piya Wiconi Campus.  Keynote Speaker: Harlen Eagle of Mennonite Central Committee.  Preconference Introduction and Social – Thursday May 6th.  5:30 Meal and Presentation by Larry Emerson on Conflict/Within Each of Us.  Workshops May 7 & 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with noon meal and supper each day provided by the PeaceMaking Court.  For more info contact Mabel or Grady at 455-2316.   The PeaceMaking Conference is free and supported by a generous grant from Empowerment Zone of the Pine Ridge Reservation, community members, organizations and good will.  It is our hope that the people will come together to work together for the benefit of a stronger and healthier community.

Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS) – Jack Soto/American University

I am contacting you with a request for assistance in finding one or two Oglala Lakota College students to participate in an internship in Washington, DC this coming summer through WINS.  As you may know, WINS covers the cost of travel to and from Washington, DC, housing, a meal plan, tuition, books, instituational fees, and a small living stipend while here with WINS.   The students work a 35 - 40 hour work week in addition to night classes three nights a week. 
We have current offices in the Social Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Enivronmental Protection Agency and USDA who are hoping to host a Tribal College or University student this coming summer.  We are looking for students who are in their second semester of thier sophomore year with a 2.5 GPA.  The criteria to fulfill the application requirements are as follows:  an online application, transcripts from all schools attended, proof of enrollment, academic letter of recommendation, a tribal nomination and a 500+ essay on why WINS will work for them this coming summer.  All information can be submitted online by following this link: https://applyws.american.edu/applications/  If you or the student have any additional questions, please feel free to have them contact me initially at (202) 895-4879 or at soto@american.edu.  I will eventually hand them over to Ismat Yassin for application processing.  Contact: Jack Soto, Director, Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS), Washington Semester AI/NA Program,
