Grant funded research and outreach offer a number of benefits to a tribal college and the community. For example, our research on diabetes and sustainable buffalo ranching has direct impact on issues important to the Lakota people (Mannel and Winkelman 2006). The “Lakota Land” project intends to help preserve sites of Lakota cultural and historical importance.
