Statement of research and teaching interests
Research and studies I am currently involved (and interested) in
- 3D GIS video animation
- Creation of interactive internet maps including hyperlinked documents, photos and short videos
- Protecting and mapping Lakota historical, recreational and business sites on the Pine Ridge Reservation (final goal is an interactive map on the internet and analysis of a possible spatial correlation of historical sites and landscape features)
- Impact of bison versus cattle grazing on South Dakota prairies (using satellite data to determine biomass)
- Mapping and analyzing the distribution of diabetes on the Pine Ridge Reservation to help in the battle against one of the biggest health issues on the reservation
- Mapping population of amphibians and reptiles (turtles, salamanders, etc) in Western South Dakota
- Technical investigation of setting up field survey sample plots in forested areas
Additional Research Interests
- GIS analysis, such as distribution of flora, fauna or even diseases
- Continue collaboration with Native American entities
- Explore Decision Tree algorithms in remotely sensed data
- Explore multi-and hyperspectral remotely sensed data for environmental studies
- Explore reference data acquisition for Remotely Sensed Data
- Investigate other GIS/Remote Sensing/Environmental technology
- Combine a variety of academic and technological fields, such as GIS, Photography, Environmental Science, etc.
In the past I have enjoyed combining different areas of science and technology. I am open to new challenges in science and love exploring cutting-edge technology.
Teaching interest:
- GIS
- GPS
- Remote Sensing
- Environmental Science
- Photography
