2013 Graduation Ceremony

 

Oglala Lakota College Celebrates 40th Graduation Ceremony

Kyle SD:  Oglala Lakota College announces its 40th Annual Graduation Ceremony on June 23, 2013, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  128 graduates will be receiving Masters, Bachelors, Associate degrees, and Certificates at OLC’s administrative campus seven miles southwest of Kyle, SD. 

“We are proud of the graduates of 2013 for staying on course to reach their goal of a college degree, overcoming many obstacles along the way,” stated Thomas Shortbull, OLC’s President.   “I commend the graduating students for their determination to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of people around them,” said Shortbull. 

This year’s keynote speaker is Brendan V. Johnson, U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota.  Johnson chaired the Native American Issues Subcommittee from 2009-2013, the longest-standing subcommittee of U.S. Attorneys within the Department of Justice.  He joins his father Senator Tim Johnson with his dedication to support Native American issues. 

The weekend activities will take place June 21-23, 2013.  The Graduation Powwow and Contest will run June 21-23 with registration beginning 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21 and closing on Saturday, June 22 at noon.  Eyapaha for the powwow is Chris Eagle Hawk and Arena Director Charlie White Buffalo.  The 10K/5K Run/Walk will take place on June 22 at 10:00 a.m. and the Awarding of Degrees on June 23th at 10:00 a.m.  For information on the Awarding of Degrees, contact Leslie Mesteth, Registrar, at 605-455-6033.  For more information on the powwow, contact Theresa Lone Hill at 605-455-6085 or Maria Albers at 455-6016.  All activities will take place at OLC’s Piya Wiconi Powwow grounds, seven miles southwest of Kyle, SD.
