Oglala Lakota College’s Department of Nursing is changing the lives of those in our tribal communities and beyond with our world-class, hands-on nursing program. OLC’s nursing department is devoted to providing academic excellence to effectively prepare its students to graduate with a vast knowledge of the intricacies and civic importance of the field of nursing, and confidently possess the relevant knowledge and skills necessary to meet the unique healthcare needs of individuals and families.
Providing hands-on nursing courses at OLC’s Pine Ridge district college centers, and many prerequisites at OLC’s varied district college centers, we’re making nursing education accessible and affordable for the betterment of the Lakota people.
PROGRAM TERMINAL OUTCOMES
The Oglala Lakota College, Department of Nursing prepares the Associate Degree Nursing graduate who will:Terminal Outcome #2: Demonstrate cultural competency and caring behaviors for the purpose of providing culturally appropriate nursing care to diverse populations. Lakota Values: Wowahola-Respect, Wacantognaka-Generosity
Terminal Outcome #3: Incorporate professional/legal, ethical accountability into practice, embracing the values of the profession and assuming the various nursing roles of life-long learner, teacher, client advocate, leader/manager, and care provider. Lakota values: Woohitika-Courage, Wacantognaka-Generosity.
Terminal Outcome #4: Utilize evidence-based practice and technology to provide safe, competent, holistic nursing care to clients across the lifespan. Lakota Value: Woksape-Wisdom.
Terminal Outcome #5: Communicate and collaborate with client, family, healthcare and interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic health care and promotion/disease prevention. Lakota Value: Wowahola-Respect.
Applications for the Nursing Program are due March 1st
Accreditation of the Nursing Program
Oglala Lakota College (OLC) is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The OLC Department of Nursing has full approval status by the South Dakota Board of Nursing (SDBON). Candidates who graduate from the OLC Nursing program must take the national licensure exam in order to receive their registered nurse (RN) license.
A.D. Nursing
Upon completion of all necessary prerequisites, you may be eligible to join OLC’s extraordinary nursing program to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Offered at OLC’s district college center in Pine Ridge, once accepted, you can expect to enjoy a rewarding college education centered on the formative skill set, methodology, and practices necessary to excel in a comprehensive nursing program upon graduation.
