Student Support Services Program Purpose

The purpose of TRIO is to provide opportunities for academic development beyond the resources available to students in the classroom through mentoring, tutoring, academic advising, cultural activities, and assistance with applications.

Peer Mentoring Program

One way Oglala Lakota College helps our new students adjust to the academic environment of college is through our Peer Mentoring Program. Our mentors are students in their Junior or Senior year, and are in good academic standing at the College. These students are either enrolled full time, or at least ¾ time, are computer literate, have an understanding of the OLC Student Handbook, are flexible and can provide tutoring.

Peer Mentoring Participants

Students who are looking to enroll in the Peer Mentoring program as a mentee, or participant must be a First-Generation College student and qualify as low income. They must be a new incoming OLC student with less than 30 credit hours earned. They will have to be willing to meet with and maintain contact with both the Peer Mentoring and Student Support Services Staff, and be active in their program activities.
