Federal Grants

PELL and FSEOG Grants are additional scholarships provided by the government given out to students based on need.

Pell Grant

Students must have filed the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). This is a federal program that offers assistance to any eligible student who needs it to attend a post-secondary educational institution. The value of the award may vary depending on the estimated family contribution (EFC) and award amounts as calculated by the Department of Education each year. This award helps eligible students work toward an undergraduate degree. Once a student has earned a first Bachelor’s Degree, they are no longer eligible to receive PELL.

Apply for FASFA Now!

Create a FSA I.D and password before completing FAFSA.

It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of their FSA username, password and email information they used to complete their FAFSA application. (https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid)

Students who are under the age of 24 and have no children are considered dependent and must submit parents' information (even if parents did not file or claim the student for the previous year's taxes).

Parent/Parents must create a FSA I.D username and password (parent who provided more than 50% of support for the student).

If students submit their FAFSA without using their FSA I.D and/or their parents’ FSA I.D, the student's FAFSA application will be incomplete and may take up to 2-3 weeks to be complete.

Returning students who already have their FSA I.D information will have to login using their username & password to apply for the 2019-2020 FAFSA application at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa

If you have any questions regarding your FSA I.D, Please call Pell Processing at 1-800-433-3243.

Oglala Lakota College school code is 014659.

SIGN electronically with FSA I.D at the end of FAFSA application

Verification

The Department of Education will choose around 44% of student FAFSA applications each year for verification. All students that are selected by the Department of Education are required to complete the verification process in order to receive the Pell grant, if they are eligible. In this process, OLC will be comparing the accuracy of information from your FAFSA with the information from the verification worksheet. If there are differences between your FAFSA and your verification worksheet and other documentation required, OLC will make corrections on your behalf to your FAFSA. Your estimated financial aid offer cannot be finalized and disbursed until all documents are received. Oglala Lakota College uses an online verification system called ProVerify. Students will use this online system to complete and submit their required documents such as the verification form and all the necessary IRS Tax papers for students and/or parents. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

Determination of PELL Eligibility and Disbursement of PELL Funds

Pell award amounts will be calculated by the number of eligible hours’ students are enrolled in at the fourth week of classes. Verification of attendance will also be completed by the financial aid staff during week four. Pell refund disbursements will be out week eight for students with a complete file and every week after until all eligible students are paid out.

In the event of a student totally withdrawing from classes and ending up in repayment situation, the student will be responsible for the repayment back to the program and will be in overpayment with the Department of Education.
